Rucho Chavez was born on August 17th, 1924 in Chihuahua, Mexico. In 1955 he and his wife, Celia, received their naturalization to the United States of America. While in the United States, he worked construction, building houses in the area, then moving on to employment with Stahmanns’ Farms. He began his journey with La Posta de Mesilla in the late 1950’s.

Katy Griggs Camunez, the owner of La Posta, adored Rucho and his family and quickly found him a place at La Posta. He started out mopping the restaurant floors every morning along with washing dishes. Other jobs included feeding the birds, running errands, cleaning red chile and making our beautiful red chile ristras.

After 55 years with La Posta, Rucho retired in the summer of 2013. “Rucho” will always have a special place here as the kind and sweet man that we all adore!
